Paediatric Nephrology

Research Interests

The Paediatric Nephrology Centre of the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital has been the territory-wide referral centre for complicated childhood kidney conditions for over two decades. In addition to clinical excellence, the centre is one of the leading regional and international sites for research in Paediatric Nephrology. The research focus of the KIDS’Cure Lab aims to uncover the pathogenesis and advance the care in several important kidney conditions, notably Nephrotic Syndrome, Childhood-onset Lupus Nephritis, Dialysis and Onconephrology. The Chinese name of the KIDS’Cure Lab is “腎兒知癒實驗室”, because the group firmly believes that children with kidney diseases can be cured by generating new knowledge in medicine.

Over the past few years, the research team has established an international collaborative research network on childhood nephrotic syndrome involving over 30 paediatric nephrology centres in Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania. Their works have been published in top peer-reviewed nephrology journals including Kidney International and the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. The results of these studies have transformed the patient care in several international clinical practice guidelines.

Research topics include:

  • Childhood nephrotic syndrome
  • Lupus nephritis and other paediatric glomerular disease
  • Kidney failure and dialysis
  • Onconephrology
