Background

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) announces the establishment of a new research institute, namely the Hong Kong Hub of Paediatric Excellence (HK HOPE) on 20 Nov 2018. Hong Kong Hub of Paediatric Excellence (HK HOPE) is a University-level institute comprising investigators from different faculties and different CUHK centres, institutes, and departments. The specific goal of HK HOPE is to enhance multidisciplinary research to accelerate discoveries that can improve the health and welfare of children with rare and common paediatric diseases. One of the core missions of the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital is to support research for the betterment of child health, making it an ideal venue for CUHK to expand its internationally competitive research programmes focused on child health.

Mission

Conduct cutting-edge multidisciplinary research through collaboration and scholarship across different Faculties within the University to innovate precision diagnostics and therapeutics for paediatric diseases as well as to promote child health advocacy and education of all children. Seizing this golden opportunity, we foster multidisciplinary research, bringing together collaborative research teams comprising clinicians, clinician-scientists, scientists, educationists, psychologists, engineers, and linguists. This large “consortium” will stimulate innovation and facilitate the implementation of precision medicine to improve and enhance the physical and psychosocial well-being of children with rare and common paediatric diseases.

Vision

Advance the physical and psychosocial well-being of children with the integration of world-class basic, translational, and clinical research for the implementation of precision medicine for paediatric diseases.
