Doctor CHEUNG Yin Ting

Assistant Professor, School of Pharmacy,
Faculty of Medicine, CUHK

Biography

Yin Ting Cheung received her training on pharmacoepidemiology and cancer survivorship from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis, USA). Her work with the Cognitive Neuroscience Team at St. Jude involved characterizing the pharmacological, biological and genetic determinants of brain function and other treatment-related complications in survivors of childhood cancer.

Yin Ting joined the Faculty of Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in August 2017. She has initiated research/ commissioned projects for the Childhood Cancer Survivors’ Study (National Institute of Health, USA), the Chinese Children’s Cancer Group (CCCG), the Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) and the Hospital Authority, as well as NGOs serving patients with cancer and hemophilia. She hopes that her collaborative research with students, clinicians and scientists can help to improve health outcomes in young survivors of cancer and other chronic diseases.

  • B.Sc.(Pharm) (Hons), Ph.D.

Major advances in health care delivery have dramatically improved survival rates for children, adolescents and young adults (AYAs) diagnosed with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Unfortunately, survivorship often comes at a cost of developing a myriad of treatment-related complications that can have a negative impact on their functional outcomes and quality of life. Yin Ting’s research is focused on supportive care and survivorship in children and AYAs with cancer. Specifically, her research interests are:

  • Investigating the physiological, biobehavioral, and pharmacological factors associated late effects, particularly adverse outcomes related to brain function, such as neurocognitive impairment, neurobehavioral problems, and psychological distress.
  • Using real-world data to investigate drug utilization and subsequent health outcomes, as well as the effectiveness and safety of the use of complementary medicines in patients with cancer.
  • Developing educational resources to engage children and AYAs in taking ownership of their health.
